What is Yin Yoga?
There are many types of yoga that have a variety of different names. But one of the most popular types of yoga that is widely practiced around the world is known as Yin Yoga.
Yin Yoga is named after the Taoist philosophy of the Yin and the Yang, that popular black and white symbol you have undoubtedly seen at some point in your life, representing the balance between spiritual and physical worlds. Yin Yoga is the more passive version of Yin and Yang Yoga and involves a variety of seated positions that are held for three to five minutes at a time, stretching muscles, tendons and joints and building inner strength.
While yin yoga by initial descriptions may seem easy and relaxed it is not, as holding poses in any position for that amount of time is incredibly difficult. However, this is great yoga for beginners to start with, as poses can be held for 45 seconds to two minutes.
