Yoga for Depression Seems to Work

Depression is caused by a wide variety of things and dealing with it can be a lifelong struggle. But there is a growing body of evidence that physical activity, like yoga, can help with or even help someone overcome their depression.


Beyond yoga for depression just being something that is a form of active exercise that distracts someone who is depressed, it is also a form of meditation, helping someone on both an emotional and spiritual level as well. There are a number of yoga poses that are actually ideal for helping with depression, especially challenging ones that forces someone to work to be able to do them properly. Breathing exercises during yoga can also help with depression, like coherent breathing that focuses on breath and the individual spending equal amounts of time inhaling and exhaling.


So if you’re suffering from depression, try yoga and see if it helps. Even if it doesn’t work, it can’t hurt.
